Yizani Sakhe means “Come let us build” was formally established in November 2002 by a group of concerned women who saw a need of providing immediate relief during disasters, high levels of poverty, unemployment and increased infections of HIV/AIDs and Tubercolosis in Guguletu and its surroundings.

The organisation has been operating with a non-existent budget for the past 3 years. The founders have managed to supply the vulnerable groups with food through their own pockets

Built On Decades Of Tradition

HIV/AIDS & Tuberculosis Program
This initiative aims to provide critical intervention and support to those affected by HIV/AIDS and TB, ensuring better health outcomes and an improved quality of life. The key objectives include:

  • Supporting HIV-positive individuals in accepting their status and adopting a healthier lifestyle.
  • Addressing poverty through the provision of basic needs and promoting self-sustainability.

Youth & Orphaned/Vulnerable Children (OVC) Support Program
Yizani Sakhe has identified approximately 400 OVCs across four primary schools through its weekly life skills programs. In the past, the organisation has successfully provided school uniforms and stationery to 300 children. Each case is individually assessed to determine the best course of action, with referrals made to relevant departments or organisations when needed.

Working in partnership with the Department of Social Development, Yizani Sakhe also facilitates foster care grants for children under its care. Additionally, the organisation provides:

  • Educational outings that broaden children’s learning experiences.
  • Recreational activities such as dance, drama, and debates to nurture creativity and personal development.

Empowering Communities, Changing Lives

Yizani Sakhe Organisation is committed to uplifting the community of Guguletu and its surrounding areas, providing vital support to individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB), substance abuse, unemployment, hunger, and poverty.
